Estoy Veniendo a Buenos Aires!

Posted on Thursday 3 December 2009

I am off to Buenos Aires for a 10 day trip.

I am invited to this Art Expo in Buenos Aires this coming weekend to give a talk. Argentina is one of the countries I always wanted to go so it was perfect. And amazingly, I finished the colorkeys of the final sequence of the film a day before my vacation. It all worked out!

As some of you may know, I am doing this side project called Sketchtravel with my best buddy Gerald Guerlais. I’m using this opportunity to bring the mighty sketchbook to Carlos Nine! He has been one of my FAVORITE artists since I first saw his work when I was a student. I’m supposed to meet Senor Nine as soon as I get there. I can’t wait to see what Carlos will do to contribute to this already-mind boggling project!

Come to the Sketchtravel blog in a few weeks to get the full report on my endeavour!

It was truly humbling to have the colorscript panel with my heroes at CTN Expo a few weekends ago. And lots of people came to see the talk. Thank you… I wish we had more time to talk in depth.
This is the colorscript from Horton Hears A Who. I keep wanting to write a break down of my approach on colorscript. Stay tuned….

Dice- Your presentation on color scripting was one of the main reasons I flew in to CTN-X and it was fabulous. And now to see the color script here is awesome, I wish they would include stuff like this in the DVD. I can’t wait to see your post on the process.

Thank you so much for posting.

    Hey Dice,

Too bad that I will miss you at the Maverix’s party. Have fun in Argentina.
Thanks for posting your color script. The production designers have a special place as it integrates fine arts with story. I have been definately drawn into this space as I have been collecting the personal works of JLO, Bill C, Lou Romano and your work heavily in the past 2 years. There is an appeal different from works that I have seen for artists who solely do work for gallery.

    Best,

    cK

    Hey Dice!
Wow! Thanks for posting your color script. Truly inspirational! Is there any reading material you suggest for tips on how to creatively color harmonize a sequence as you have shown? I love that you made “overwhelming pink = devastation”. Amazing!

Hola Rodrigo!! It was so nice meeting you!
I wish we had more chance to talk.
Please let me know when you have a chance to come to the Bay Area! (adove head quarter!)

    –David
    Thanks again!
Yeah, I just don’t think Blue Sky/Fox know what to include in the DVDs or books. They just don’t think that’ll add anything to their own pocket.

    –Tatiana
Gracias! Mi viage fui tan excellente!!

    –Ryan

Thank you! I think my advice to learn about color::: paint outdoor.
And maybe get Richard Schmidt’s Alla Prima to study some examples. Maybe copy master’s work such as Sargent/Sorolla etc

    –Debbie
    Thank you very much!

    –Leon
Thank you for coming to the panel!

    –Damon

    Hello Dice,

Really cool website, great art, very inspiring.
I have a comment, that is probably more a question.
regarding this color script. It’s the last part of the movie,
the choice of color to illustrate devastation.
    Overwhelming pink = Devastation

The pink. I dont know what to think, because i’m confused here.
For me pink is a color of softness and well being, ecstasy and serenity,
innocence, girlie. If you see what i mean. If given this assignment I would probably
went for a purplish gey tone.

what’s motivate you toward the pink?

    Cheers,
    Audran
