Adios Nueva York!

Posted on Wednesday 13 June 2007

Hmm… it’s really strange… I left NYC once back in 1998 after collage. I came back in 2000 to work for Blue Sky and then now I’m leaving again.. My final month in NY was really hectic even though in the end everything seemed to fall into places. I gave a photoshop painting demo at Blue Sky–All the dirty painting secrets Dice has never revealed ever before– the day before my last day. Now, everyone at Blue Sky knows all the technique necessary to do what I do. Oh man, what have I done!? I feel naked!!
So many goodbyes to so many great friends. I will miss them tremendously.

It was one of my best friends and great artist, Nash Dunnigan’s birthday and it was my sort of b-day and goodbye gifts combined. The legend of his 6 hands will be kept on the canvas forever…

At the hand off ceremony, he holds his portrait oh so proudly..

Nice painting man! I bet Nash must of loved that, hahah. It will be weird not having you in NY, for sure. But do your thing out in Cali. I expect to see more great stuff from you.

Love the way you paint Dice, and that oil piece is just great. Nothing like having an original oil painting to show for your efforts! Great gift for a friend, too!

Certainly One of the funniest paintings you did Dice, Bravooo. With a french perfume of wine inside…
You will have to tell about this 6 hands legend some days ;-))
And You will have to re-invent your brand new process now you teached all your secrets.
(http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/ should ask you a special dvd)
Good luck with your new challenge in SF. You will come back to NYC, no doubt !

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. The likeness in the face is remarkable, but the arms are…well, a work of fiction. That Dice sure has an over active imagination. He’ll do great things at Pixar with it, no doubt…
    I owe you big Dice!

Congradulations on going to Pixar. I know it must be hard to leave people like Bob and Jeff B. behind, but you’re going to bring something cool to the table here. Welcome!

Blue Sky isn’t the same without you man. It’s still a great place but there is a stone missing from the facade. I hope you’re enjoying the bay area and I’ll catch up with you later in the week.

Dice! Congrats on the Pixar job. I’m a firm believer that change is good, especially when both ends of the change are sweet places like Blue Sky and Pixar. If you’re in LA, we should get a drink and talk about how much we miss the SVA drawing studios.
