So here it is. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been painting a few days a week before work. These crazy guys from Pixar are pretty dedicated!!! It’s been a lot of fun. They even created a little blog to share this experience.
So I went back to gouache. It is partly because I don’t really have time to paint in oil in the morning, but it is mainly because I got so excited to discover Nathan Fowkes’s blog. If you haven’t check it out, do! It is some of the best gouache paintings you will ever see!

I like the transition from light to shadow on the first piece. For the second piece, I enjoy the piece as multiple color abstraction study. But, personally, I still love your work in oils the best where you capture the intensity of the moment in light as well as the calmness in the shadows/dark. I do not quite get the feeling these 2 gouache pieces.

I’m super inspired by these last couple of posts man. Just a heads up, the trees in NY are slowly starting to change colors. I would say peak season will be with in the next 2-3 weeks.
I’m glad things are working out for you in Cali. I’m lucky if I could get 3 or 4 friends in one room at the same time let alone gathering to paint at the crack of dawn.

Thanks and I agree. My watercolor/gouache never come close to the level I strive for. I do have a better handling of oils for sure. But I do enjoy it and hope I can get better!

I miss East Coast colors!!!! There’s really not much variations in SF. But I just went to japan to capture the breathtaking colors. I’ll share with you soon.

Hello Dice! I just found you and have to say I love the gouache work!
Inspirational, Dice…and I concur on Nathan Fowkes…I’m an outdoor painter, have been for 30 years…first acrylics, then oils…plein air, but have been painting quite a few gouache the past few months since an artist friend I visited in New York gave me a set of Holbeins to try out. Try as I might…I just don’t find it easy to do simple block in shapes, flat brushwork…can’t escape being me, but continue on. Lovely work…and I’ll have to add this link to my blog for others to see. If you get a chance, here’s my blog and collection of gouache pieces…would love your thoughts on them.
